  1. “They crushed our enemies and our sorrow,
  2. They gave up their today for our tomorrow,

They wore a smile and laid down their lives,

A salute to these gallant soldiers and their sacrifice,

They are fallen but not forgotten.”

  3. “On that dark night,
  4. When the whole country calmly slept,

In the silence of those cold winters,

    Those brave men slowly crept,

    Loaded with ammunition,

    With only one ambition,

of taking back, once to the country which belonged,

Leaving behind their kith and kins,

To proclaim victory was all they longed for.

    Taking their positions,

    with the country’s thought,

    The posts were so silent,

    So nervous were the soldiers,

But as the silence broke in haste,

    Their nervousness disappeared.

    Their teamwork, Their compassion,

    Bravery & determination,

    Paved their path towards victory.

    Three months the battle lasted,

The year was nineteen ninety nine.

The Indian soldiers were so devoted,

The battle one day had to resign.

    They laid their lives

    for the nation’s glory,

    Their families cried

and the whole country was sorry.

    They proclaimed Tiger hill,

    The pride of kargil,

So, in their honour, Kargil Day is celebrated.”

  5. “For the thirst of motherland,
  6. They were there, with their lives in their hand,

    They moved on,

With pride, carrying them through the bloody lawn,

    Striking away, the thundering turmoil,

    by their breathtaking play.

Their cry still resonating through the lands of KARGIL,

Gives a chill down our spine,

as we read of their time.

    Faces, they are..

    That points the tricolour…

With songs dedicated to those brave hearts.

    Bringing pain like heavy darts.

    We commemorate our KARGIL DIWAS,

as they have none to surpass.”

  7. “On Kargil Vijay Diwas, we remember with pride,
  8. The brave soldiers who fought, side by side.

Amidst icy peaks and treacherous terrain,

They stood unwavering, their courage not in vain.

With valor and sacrifice, they fought the fight,

Defending our borders, with all their might.

Their unwavering spirit, like a beacon, shone,

In the face of adversity, they marched on.

We bow our heads to those we lost,

Their bravery and sacrifice, a heavy cost.

Their memory lives on, forever in our heart,

On Kargil Vijay Diwas, we solemnly impart.

With pride, we honor those who fell,

    Their legacy forever we’ll tell.

Kargal Vijay Diwas, a solemn day,

To salute our heroes, come what may.”

  9. “Nation feels proud of its soldiers,
  10. and speaks it loudly in the honor and sacrifices

that were promised to the motherland.

    The country stood for non-interference

    and gave every chance

to the enemy to mend the ways,

    and cautioned to stay away.

    This was taken as weakness

    and forced the access

into high peaks of the motherland.

The army was pressed to defend the holy land,

it was a question of “do or die”

but not to surrender to the lies.

    The soldiers accepted the challenge

the enemy was neutralized or dislodged.

Many soldiers died in the course

but the enemy was forced out.

We remember this day in their honor

and pay the tribute to the soldiers.”

  11. “They must have gone away with silent beats,
  12. But left immortal tunes inside the heart;

They vowed their timeless youth to do its part,

Without a thought to medals, fame and feats.

To hear their swansong, lend me ears,

Their aura gleams upon our tears.

The dusty touch of memories embrace

    The fading portraits never spoken of;

Their pristine stream of great courageous love

But springs within to carve its lasting trace.

They quelled a furnace full of fears,

This day fills in for passing years.

While marching on as clouds on heaven’s plane,

    They shone by constellations far and near;

Those brisk and buried footsteps still appear,

And to the end of time, they shall remain.

This day fills in for passing years,

Their aura gleams upon our tears.”

A Little Background about Kargil Vijay Diwas

In early 1999, Pakistani soldiers and militants infiltrated Indian territory. They infiltrated the city of Kargil in Jammu and Kashmir and occupied strategic peaks and positions along the Line of Control (LoC), posing a serious threat to the Indian military and civilian infrastructure. The Indian army launched Operation Vijay to remove the infiltrators from the LOC. The operation led to a war which lasted for two months (May to July 1999).
